The drone market is booming, with several companies coming up with crazy and innovative ideas to make the most of this trend. However, commercial drones require significant initial investment, which is a huge barrier to their widespread use. Airware, one of the pioneers of UAV autopilots, has launched a commercial drone fund for investing in drone startups that have a lot of potential but do not have the initial startup capital. So, if your drone company has an innovative idea, you can use this fund to jumpstart your business.

Can My Commercial Drone Business Make Use of This Fund?

Airware is currently accepting applications in the following five categories:

  • Sensor hardware
  • Software applications
  • Cloud-based aerial data analysis tools
  • Drone-based services
  • Complete solutions for specific industries

If your company is working in any of these areas, Airware is ready to invest from $250,000 to $1 million, provided that your solution uses its autopilot and software ecosystem. Although the company is based in the USA, it is accepting applications from all around the world so your location should not be a problem. Sky-Futures, a London-based company that is working on oil and gas exploration using UAVs, has already received funding through this program and as a result is accelerating its growth in the sector. Here is the link to apply for funding from Airware.

Besides Airware, DJI has also launched a similar program, entitled SkyFund, that is ready to invest more than $250,000 in drone startups that make use of the DJI ecosystem. It is also accepting applications through its website.

These types of funding opportunities are extremely beneficial to the UAV industry as they enable more people to start their own UAV businesses and enter the drone market. If more companies do the same to support drone startups, we will surely see rapid growth in the entire drone industry.

Do you think such funds will benefit the community? Or will they give existing companies even more power over the entire industry? Tell us what you think!
